Speaker And Deputy Speakers Attend Somalia’s Independence Day Commemoration

Baidoa, 1 July 2026: The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Southwest State of Somalia, Dr. Mahad Mohamed Sh. Hassan, together with the First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Adan Hassan Mohamed (Osama), and the Second Deputy Speaker, Hon. Shamso Mohamed Yaroow, attended the 1 July Independence Day commemoration held at the Southwest State Presidential Palace.

The occasion marked the independence of Somalia’s southern regions from Italian colonial rule and the union of the northern and southern territories that established the Somali Republic.

Dr. Mahad highlighted the profound significance of the day for the Somali people and honoured the sacrifices of the young Somalis who resisted colonial rule and contributed to the country’s independence and unity.

The Speaker urged all Somalis, particularly the people of the Southwest State, to remain steadfast in safeguarding national unity and strengthening solidarity among the Somali people.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Southwest State, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madoobe, representatives of state institutions, and members of the public.
