Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Elected President Of The Southwest State Of Somalia

Baidoa, 10 June 2026: The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Southwest State of Somalia, Dr. Mahad Mohamed Sh. Hassan, accompanied by the First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Adan Hassan Mohamed (Osama), and the Second Deputy Speaker, Hon. Shamso Mohamed Yaroow, presided over the Fourth Sitting of the First Session, convened to elect the President of the Southwest State of Somalia.

Members of the House cast their ballots freely for the candidates contesting the presidency.

Following the counting of votes, the Speaker officially announced the election results. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe) was elected President after receiving 88 votes, while Abdiaziz Mohamed Osman (Jawaari) received one vote. One ballot was declared invalid.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Southwest State of Somalia administered the oath of office to President-elect Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), formally entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Southwest State Government.

The Speaker subsequently closed the sitting and thanked all parties that contributed to the successful conduct of the election, particularly the National Electoral Commission, the security agencies, and the technical teams. He commended their role in maintaining security and ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully, transparently, and credibly.
